WOD: Friday the 13th Fat-Blasting Workout

WOD: Friday the 13th Fat-Blasting Workout

Happy Friday the 13th! Let's celebrate with a workout! My trainer always tells me to always go "past the finish line." It's a training technique that really sticks with me when the reps start adding up. Since I usually do 12 reps of everything, I added one more for today - because I can! And you can too! Once you finish the core workout, the rest of this workout is my favorite format: a slow and controlled strength movement, followed by a fast paced activity that keeps your heart rate … [Read more...]

Why I Love Kinesiotape

Why I Love Kinesiotape

It used to be that when people got injured, they were kept off their feet and resting for as long as possible. As more is understood about how the body works, the opposite is now true. That's because your body is an amazing machine that will heal itself bio-mechanically, through its own natural movement and circulation processes. But to stimulate them, you need to move. What is Kinesiotape? Kinesiotape is a lightweight, stretchy tape that is applied to injured or stressed areas of the … [Read more...]

WOD: Core, Legs and Back

WOD: Core, Legs and Back

Try this quick workout I put together to work  legs, core and back! The back is often neglected in training, so I always make sure to incorporate it into my warmup, combo moves, and isolation training it as well. It can be tough in the gym to do circuits because other people are using equipment too, so I set this up in sections so you can easily go through all 3 rounds of 2-3 exercises at a time in one place, then move on. Be sure to read my notes on form at the bottom of this … [Read more...]

WOD: Tabata Hills

WOD: Tabata Hills

Tabata Hills is a workout I like to do that combines efficient high calorie burning with a great leg workout. Tabatas are a type of interval training in which you combine 20 seconds of work with 10 seconds of rest for consecutive repetitions. I like to do 5 minutes of tabata-style intervals, followed by 5 minutes rest for 3 rounds. You could vary this workout by doing more or less than 5 minutes, traditional tabata rounds go for 4 minutes. The extra minute adds an endurance component that … [Read more...]

Post-Workout Stretching and Using the Foam Roller

Post-Workout Stretching and Using the Foam Roller

Here is a quick video demonstrating the sequence I use to roll out my legs. You can't add this into your post-workout routine too much - it's great combined with stretching or on its own. The roller is a versatile tool that will help you get more out of your workouts through increasing your flexibility and decreasing the soreness that occurs after tough exercise bouts. It smooths out and lengthens your underlying connective tissue that surrounds your muscles - your fascia - and if you … [Read more...]

SOME AWESOME PRAISE…

  • Your body will be around a lot longer than that expensive handbag.

    Invest in Yourself.

  • The same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg.

It's not about the circumstances, but rather what you're made of.

  • It doesn't matter what others are doing.

It matters what YOU are doing.

  • It is not happy people who are thankful.

It is thankful people who are happy.

  • Marry someone who can cook. Looks fade.

    Hunger doesn't.

  • Excuses will always be there for you.

    Opportunity won't.

  • You've always been beautiful. Now you're just deciding to be healthier, fitter, stronger, faster.

    Remember that.

  • Healthy is not a weight. It is not a diet.

It is not eating clean 7 days a week and it is not exercising 7 days a week. and most of all, it's not the same for everyone.

  • If you continuously compete with others, you become BITTER.

But if you continuously compete with yourself, you become BETTER.

  • Be with someone who makes you happy.
